Virginia Tech Homecoming Queen Hopeful Wants Nirvana For Video Appearance

You read that right.  This Homecoming Queen hopeful contacted Sub Pop Records to get Nirvana for a promo video appearance. This girl must be VERY sheltered. I get that students may not have been born before the untimely demise of Kurt Cobain, but...COME ON! Oh, it gets worse. Keep reading to find out the amount of cultural history this girl lacks. Her letter is there, as well as a funny video from Sub Pop.

Not only did the fan seemingly have no idea that Kurt Cobain is dead, let alone that they’re broken up, she also refers to Nirvana as a ‘she’ and clearly has no idea about the ethos of the band.

After revealing her identity as the Virginia Tech Mascot (which is supposed to be a secret, guys) the fan goes on to explain that she would love the help of the band for her homecoming queen campaign.

It’s no big ask or anything, just getting the band to film a short video amping up the university that will be included in a video reel. The writer even goes as far as to script what the band should say, because Kurt would have loved that. The band is instructed to say – in unison, or perhaps in sections – something similar to:

“”What’s up Virginia Tech? This is Nirvana! Just wanted to wish you guys a Happy Homecoming Week and good luck at the game this Saturday. LET’S GO HOKIES!”

The only issue is, it doesn’t sound as though the fan would actually know if it was Nirvana in the video or not. Despite claiming that “Virginia Tech loves Nirvana”, the fan reminds the record company how this is a win-win situation for all, as Nirvana will finally get the publicity they so sorely need, then states, “We’d love to have her in our video.”

As it turns out, if the band DO appear in the video they’ll be in great company, with other artists such as “Big N Rich, Ying Yang Twins, the Cataracs, Slightly Stoopid, and three famous NFL Players” previously contributing footage.
