Superman Quits His Day Job – Clark Kent Is Leaving The Daily Planet
While this isn’t the first time Clark Kent has stepped down from his position as a newspaper reporter, it’s still kind of a big deal in that he’s doing it for modern day reasons. Plus that’s been his place of employment since the 30′s! After The Daily Planet is bought by Galaxy Broadcasting, a huge entertainment source, Superman aka Clark Kent is fed up that all they run are stories about Lookie’s (obviously Snookie) love child, and the big blockbuster movie review. Keep reading for more details.
“In SUPERMAN #13,” a DC Entertainment spokesperson said,”Clark Kent, after a heated discussion with Morgan Edge (the owner of The Daily Planet’s parent company, Galaxy Broadcasting), leaves his position as a reporter at The Daily Planet. This is the beginning of a multi-faceted storyline that will challenge Clark on all levels – personally and professionally, as both himself and as Superman. This is not the first time in DC Comics history that Clark Kent has left the Planet, and this time the resignation reflects present-day issues – the balance of journalism vs. entertainment, the role of new media, the rise of the citizen journalist, etc. Over the next several issues, readers will enjoy the many surprises in store for Clark, as the “H’el on Earth” storyline unfolds.”
“This is really what happens when a 27-year-old guy is behind a desk and he has to take instruction from a larger conglomerate with concerns that aren’t really his own,” Scott Lobdell, the writer of “Superman” issue #13 told USA Today.
“Superman is arguably the most powerful person on the planet, but how long can he sit at his desk with someone breathing down his neck and treating him like the least important person in the world?”
So, what’s he gonna do now? Become an internet blogger? What are your thoughts on Superman quitting his day job?
