Saints Sign Veteran Defensive End Darryl Tapp

In need of more pass rushers and run stoppers, the New Orleans Saints have signed veteran defensive end Darryl Tapp, the team announced today.

Tapp is a 10 year veteran who broke into the league as a 2nd round draft pick of the Seattle Seahawks in 2006.

After 4 seasons in Seattle, he was traded to Philadelphia where he inked a 3 year deal with the Eagles.

He spent one season with Washington as a backup in 2013, then signed with the Detroit Lions in 2014. For the last two seasons, he's served as a backup pass rusher, playing in all 16 games each year.

With 310 tackles and 27.5 sacks, the veteran will likely compete with Bobby Richardson for playing time.

New Orleans was banking on 2nd year pro Hau'oli Kikaha to be a big part of the Saints defense, in particular as a pass rusher. However, he tore his ACL four weeks ago, opening the door for Tapp to continue his career.

In order to make room for Tapp on the roster, the Saints waived tight end Jack Tabb.
