First of all, no, this is not an April Fools Joke. It may sound a little far fetched at first, but this might be a pretty fantastic idea. There is currently a bill proposed in the Louisiana State Legislature would make it illegal for establishments to serve alcohol to customers without a designated driver.

This bill was first proposed last month, and is up to be considered during the legislature’s upcoming April session. The bill requires the designated driver to show a valid Louisiana driver’s license, and the establishment cannot refuse service to anyone acting as a designated driver just because they are not purchasing alcohol.

In 2013, alcohol-impaired driving fatalities were responsible for 33%  of vehicular fatalities in Louisiana, according to responsibility.org. There were about 233 alcohol-impaired driving fatalities total in 2013.

What do you think, is this a lofty idea that just could never work? Is it a case of great intention, but not a very practical enough to execute?

Obviously, it could complicate social adventures, but the overwhelming positive here is that it could save lives. What's do YOU think about this idea?
