Mercedes-Benz ‘Unveils’ $263,000 Invisibility Cloak For New Promotion

I'm sure that after most people had seen the Harry Potter films, they would like their own cloak of invisibility. Or, if you have ever seen the James Bond film 'Die Another Day', you would like an invisible car. Mercedes-Benz is making that fiction a reality, for a cost of about $263,000.

The cloak is being used as a promotional tool for Mercedes-Benz's first fuel-cell vehicle called the F-Cell, which produces only water vapor and heat for emissions. The promotion shows how the car would be 'invisible' to the environment. Check out a photo of the cloaked covered car below.

The German car company spent a whopping $263,000 worth of flexible LED mats covering one side of the car. Then, by mounting a camera at the right scale on the opposite side, the LED lights produce an image, making the car 'invisible' by blending into the background as shown above.

Now, don't think you can just purchase an invisibility cloak like this, because it requires power sources, computers and other gear weighing nearly 1,100 lbs.

It's just a promotion...a pretty UN-seeable one!
