The event is a 'gathering for healing' at Blackham Coliseum.

An event has come together quite quickly for Lafayette to continue to heal from last Thursday's shootings at the Grand Theatre.

Specifics are still being worked out for the event, but here's what we know so far.

  • The event is scheduled to run from 7p-8:30p.
  • Doors open at 6p
  • The lineup is not firmed up yet, but several local musicians have volunteered their services
  • Police Chief Jim Craft will publicly recognize first responders, and family members of the two women killed.
  • Survivors have been invited to participate
  • Overflow parking available on St. Landry St. near old Our Lady of Lourdes. A shuttle will run to and from Blackham

City-Parish President Joey Durel announced in a statement announcing the event:

“The way this event has come together so quickly and so collectively is just another example of Lafayette and Acadiana’s culture that has been seen across the nation, and even the world, over these last several days… Our community is strong. This ceremony will be a useful step in our community’s necessary healing process.”

If/when we get updated info, we'll post it here.
