Lafayette High School, the largest high school in Acadiana, could be on it's way out.

The Lafayette Parish School Board will vote Wednesday on whether to hire an architectural firm for $100,000 to "begin the programming process for a replacement facility for Lafayette High School."

That's just one of the big things they'll vote on. The board will also vote on whether to hire a demographer to start plans to redraw school zones.

If the board does move forward with a plan to replace Lafayette High, it most likely wouldn't happen immediately. It could be years in the future.

Back in 2010, a master plan created for Lafayette Parish schools called for the 60-year-old Lafayette High to be replaced for $74 million, but a tax proposal to fund that and other projects failed in 2011. Since then Lafayette High has been upgraded some, with $2.3 million going to renovations to restrooms, and band and chorus rooms.
