Indiana may pass a law making "baby boxes" legal. This is a place to drop your newborn off without consequences.

All 50 states have a "safe haven" law that allows mothers to surrender their children at hospitals, police stations and other facilities without fear of legal action as long as the baby hasn't been harmed.

Indiana is the first to push for "baby boxes" which allow mothers to put their newborns into what looks like an oversized bread container. On the inside is actually a newborn incubator that could save an abandoned newborn's life.

If passed, the boxes would be placed at hospitals, fire stations, churches and selected nonprofits. This would give mothers a place to surrender their newborn safely and anonymously.
