As the former drummer of Norwegian black metal band Borknagar and also working with other well known metal bands, Kinkade brings an extreme element to Soulfly’s ever evolving sound. ‘Enslaved’ is it’s own monster, but salutes the old school Sepultura thrash ‘roots’ that were heard on classic albums like ‘Arise’ and ‘Chaos AD’. “It’s viral, it’s own element,” says Kinkade.

He also spoke to us about the upcoming Maximum Cavalera tour featuring Soulfly and the bands of Max’s sons, Lody Kong (featuring Igor and Zion Cavalera) and Incite (Richie Cavalera). ”Everyone gels really good,” says Kinkade, “and we all play well together.”

He says working with Soulfly is amazing and that Max is a ‘really chilled’ person. One major factor besides the music that he enjoys is that there are no egos in the band. “We have a nice etiquette on respect,” Kinkade said. “It’s like being part of a family.” He also spoke about the band always changing members. Marc Rizzo has been in the band for years and is also a member of Cavalera Conspiracy and Tony Campos, formerly of Static-X, is now on bass. “You have to change up the ingredients to the recipe, if you want to create different sort of music,” says Kinkade. “It’s a whole different vibe. Max wanted extreme, and he got extreme!”

‘Enslaved’ is in stores now!
