Twitter Users Confuse Against Me! And Rise Against Following Tom Gabel’s Transgender Announcement
As rock music fans spread the unexpected news that Against Me! singer Tom Gabel plans to begin living as a woman named Laura Jane Grace, some fans are confusing Gabel’s band Against Me! with another punk rock group, Chicago-based Rise Against.
Because they play the same style of music and have similar names, Against Me! and Rise Against have occasionally been mixed up over the years. So even though it’s Gabel — not Rise Against singer Tim McIlrath — who has come out as transgender, the TheFW discovered that a few Twitter users aren’t getting it right.
Here’s a sampling of some of the tweets from misinformed fans, and a couple from those trying to clear up the confusion:
Can’t believe the lead singer of Rise Against is going to become a woman.
