A Local Electronic Soul Band – Royal Teeth
An electronic soul band. Givers meets Adele.
I got the chance to catch Royal Teeth‘s latest Lafayette show at Nitetown the day before Thanksgiving, and let me tell you, I was blown away. Their sound is both unique and warmly familiar.
The first thing you notice at a Royal Teeth show is how absolutely authentic the music is. The band is not putting on a show, they are opening portals to their souls and allowing the music to flow freely like a wave of energy. This wave of energy is then picked up by the crowd creating a sonic connection between band and audience unlike any other. You won’t want to leave a Royal Teeth show. They suck you in and hold you. Musical crack.
The band is all about the experience. Their live shows are a mixture of audio and visual, incorporating light and color to beautifully accompany the sonic energy. Their rhythm section is movement inducing. Even I, a devout non-dancer, had trouble holding still. Their melodies take you on an adventure, and their harmonies, their harmonies are simply incredible.
For those unfamiliar with the band, they are a group of commuters. Half from New Orleans and half from Lafayette. They’ve used their dual citizenship to create two home bases, claiming both cities as their own. Their music reflects their lives. Tales of the romance, ambition, and confusion from the prospective 20 something year olds stuck reaching for adulthood while not ready to let go of their youth. Their songs are graceful and energetic, and their melodies resonate in your head long after the amplifiers have been turned off.
Royal Teeth has been busy lately, writing, touring, and amassing a legion of fans. It won’t be long before they are back in town doing what they do best. Until then, check them out on Facebook, check them out on iTunes, check them out on Myspace if you have to, just find a way to check these guys out, because if you’re anything like me, you won’t be disappointed.
