Being one that was into things like movies, music and video games growing up, the Acadiana Mall was host to a handful of cool stores in the 80s and 90s. Here are 5 of my favorite places and places that my parents spent a bit of money on during my childhood and teenage years.

The Movie Theater in the Food Court

How cool was it to catch a movie in the food court?! There were multiple theater screens in the food court and do you remember the carpet? The theater eventually shut down after Carmike Cinemas bought it and relocated it behind the mall. The theater was eventually closed.

The Arcade in the Food Court

This hangout spot was right when you enter the food court across from what is currently FYE. Aladdin's Castle was a location that I would get a whole bunch of tokens and use them all on the Street Fighter II or Mortal Kombat machines.

    The Multiple Music Stores

Remember a time when you can head to the mall and definitely find the CD or cassette you were looking for? Well, when you have 4 music stores in the mall at the same time, it's achievable. Remember when you had the choice between Sound Shop, Record BarMusicland and Music Warehouse?!

The Really Big Movie Store in the Food Court

I spent a lot of time just looking at the massive selection in Suncoast Motion Picture Company, which was also in the food court right next to where Chick Fil A currently is. It was your home for the biggest DVD selection at the time, not to mention cool movie related items like action figures, movie props and posters!

The Retro Video Game Stores In The Mall

There were cool video game stores in the mall growing up. I remember going pre-order my Super Nintendo games at Babbage's (which is GameStop's predecessor) and playing on cool things like Turbografx 16, Neo Geo and the Super Famicom at Zowie Games before that. Does anyone else remember that awesome place?
